Viva’s great off the page too!

In the latest Nielsen Readership survey New Zealand Herald’s Viva celebrated what has been a stellar year for the magazine. Not only has it increased its readership by 15,000 to 242,000 weekly readers, it also won “Newspaper Inserted Magazine of the Year” at the 2019 Voyager Media Awards.

Viva’s General Manager Amanda Linnell shares some insights on Viva’s ongoing success including the magazine’s vibrant content offering off the printed page.

“Viva is based on a 360-degree strategy to bring the magazine’s weekly content to life online. The aim is to reach different audience pockets with bespoke digital content and by repurposing print stories in fresh and thoughtful ways using additional imagery and video.

We also strategically target our EDM (43,198) audience, Facebook (32,000), Instagram (38,500) and Twitter followers. The Viva Talks podcast series is another way we’re developing new ways to reach and grow Viva’s audience.

As well as a strong digital and social presence that includes video and podcasts, we also host events and activations. This ensures we maintain a unique place in the market and connect in fresh ways with our highly engaged readers and audience.

As an editorial team we’re continually challenging ourselves to take our audience beyond the headline and into the action. Across Viva’s content pillars from fashion to travel, trusted editors and writers – expert in bringing stories to life in creative and informative ways - produce some of the best journalism on offer.

Every day we work to evolve Viva to reflect what is happening in the moment socially and culturally and to lead with inclusive and inspiring content.

I’m very proud that the team’s great work was recognised by the Voyager Media Awards judges who described Viva as “an intelligent and professionally put-together magazine section that has its readers in sharp focus and keeps them engaged and entertained both on and off the printed page. Within this category its fresh design and digital platforms were a stand-out”.
