Following their successful launch in Auckland Sarah Gandy, Sam Wallace and Toni Street will expand their new breakfast show on The Hits, to thirteen new regions throughout the North Island from Monday 10 April.
NZME Chief Content Officer, Mike McClung says rolling the show out to additional markets is a natural progression.
“Sarah, Sam and Toni have brought an exciting fresh burst of fun, energy and warmth to breakfast radio in New Zealand. They’ve got great chemistry, are well known and loved by Kiwis and most importantly we know our listeners enjoy waking up with them each morning.”
Toni Street is one of the most popular television personalities in New Zealand, best known as star of TVNZ’s Seven Sharp. Sam Wallace brought the weather to Kiwis on TVNZ’s Breakfast for six years until he decided in 2016 that his future was on radio with The Hits. Longstanding radio personality Sarah Gandy hosted The Hits morning show in 2016, after a ten-year career with ZM. She is also the entertainment expert on NZ Herald Focus.
Toni Street says “Our first month together on air has been so much fun. We all get on great and I’m so excited that our show is heading into these other towns and cities, especially my home province of Taranaki.”
The Sarah, Sam and Toni show replaces Polly and Grant. McClung says, “Polly and Grant have had a fantastic run on radio but their relationship with NZME has now come to an end. They have both been a huge part of listeners’ lives over many years and have certainly earned a memorable part in New Zealand broadcast history. We wish them all the best for the next stage of their careers and thank them for their incredible efforts”.
NZME is also excited to announce additional investment for The Hits in the South Island with a new breakfast show for Christchurch spearheaded by Dave ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald with the full line-up to be announced shortly - alongside new breakfast shows in Nelson, Marlborough, Timaru, Oamaru and the West Coast. These changes enhance the existing The Hits local breakfast show line-ups in Dunedin, Southland, Queenstown and Hawke's Bay.
